EMPYREAL AGE

Long before the Eth honed sourcestone-based magitech or Orphiel experimented with the warping of time, the Brevanes had mastered Empyrean power. Discovering elemental ley lines beneath Cape Jule, they developed magic to siphon the natural energies of the planes, giving rise to the most capable – and harmonious – technology in Telara.

At first their purposes were humble: the lighting of trinkets and binding of charms. Over time, their mages and clerics learned to harvest and channel the fury of world-withering storms into the construction of incredible wonders. Their most ambitious projects were built at vast expense, first to power the Eternal City, next to construct massive colossi, then to commune with the gods.

At last, they would overstep. Attempting to open a portal to the planes, these masters of Empyrean artifice drew the attention of the Blood Storm, who tore through the Infinity Gate and ravaged Brevane before setting off on a long and vicious conquest of Mathosia.

THE SEVERING

Across the seas, after an age of conflict, the assembled armies of Mathosia defeated the Blood Storm and banished the shade of Regulos. The Vigil erected a ward shielding Telara from the planes while Mathosians, Eth, and their collected allies rejoiced. It was a shining moment and glorious victory.

In Brevane, it was a day of tragedy.

Survivors who had begun to rebuild found their connection with Empyrean power severed by the Ward. Their airships fell from the sky while their galleons drifted, powerless, into maelstroms. From laboratory to assembly and beyond, their machines and automata slowed or fell dormant, preserving what energy they could.

POWER RESTORED

Now the Ward has been pierced, and its final days are at hand. Across Brevane and Dusken, ley lines pulse with renewed energy, and Empyrean artifacts stir with life.

Regulos sends his forces into ruins and tombs in search of ancient relics while Crucia corrupts a restored foundry, toiling to build an army of mechanical monstrosities. Meanwhile, in the heart of the Eternal City, her Storm Legion’s meddling has warped the Empyrean Core, which races out of control toward a cataclysmic detonation.

The Ascended face a difficult decision – battle the Legion to save the Eternal City and liberate Crucia’s dark factory, or race ahead of the dragons’ forces into the armories and vaults of old Brevane, securing the weapons and devices that could decide the fate of Telara…
