Brevane is a vast continent marked by the ruins of a civilization that dared to reach for the stars. From shattered skyways arcing over Cape Jule to colossal evils hidden in the desert of Ashora, the continent is a raw and shifting testament to the scope and cost of Brevanic invention.
At the heart of Brevane lies the Eternal City, home to the ancient patrons of Empyrean mechanics. Connected to working remnants of foundries and transit systems, the city’s sprawling ruins provided safe harbor for survivors of the Blood Storm invasion. Over time, they drew power from the city’s core to rebuild and even prosper … until Crucia orchestrated their catastrophic undoing.
Exiled to the wastes of Ashora, a lesser noble named Salvarola was expected to die. Instead, hopeless and starving, he answered the siren call of a dark artifact. Crucia herself reached through it and into his mind, promising salvation and revenge. She gifted Salvalola with enormous power in return for an act of supreme treachery: he was to sabotage the Eternal City’s life-giving core. When Salvarola succeeded, the engine’s eruption tore through the magical barrier protecting the city and unleashed a wave of Life energy that killed, mutated, or warped everything in its path.
Now Salvarola rules over the teeming continent from the royal Tower of Dawn, a skybreaking spire soaring over City Core, Kingsward, Ardent Domain, and the Eastern Holdings. He controls the Beast Lords – giants who were wildly transformed by the core’s blast – and the army of misshapen mutants who worship them. Wholly committed to Crucia’s plan for Telara, he sends his shambling army across the continent in search of artifacts to fuel the Storm Legion.
To the Ascended falls the task of stopping Salvarola, restoring the heirs of Brevane to the Tower of Dawn, and uncovering the mysteries and treasures of a continent buried by Life.
A marvel of Brevanic innovation, Empyrean Core houses the planar engine that powers the Eternal City. Now, its chambers are patrolled by Salvarola’s mutants and the minions of Dr. Perfidous, a mad alchemist who brews the only elixir known to keep the Beast Lords’ consuming rage at bay. The doctor’s creations and experiments must be stopped before he can discover a mutation to afflict the Ascended and unleash the Beast Lords across Telara.
Operating at full capacity, the Empyrean manufactory known as the Golem Foundry could mint an unstoppable army of automaton soldiers. Fortunately, the Foundry is working at a fraction of its potential, but Subversionary Liaz – an overseer of the Legion’s mechanization – is striving to bring its full techworks online. Confronting Liaz is a tactical imperative in the war for Telara, as is defeating Manslaughter, the prototype juggernaut he’s prepared as an ultimate defense.
Storm Breaker Protocol
While Salvarola and Liaz add mutants and mechanicals to Crucia’s Legion, the Architects have abducted the rightful rulers of Brevane. Now, the raiders plot to transfer them to the mysterious and hostile reaches of Ashora. The Ascended must use the Storm Breaker Protocol, a key to the Legion’s cipher, to take command of Empyrean machines and give chase across a vast estate, battling the Architects in a preview of a dire showdown to come.
